    About Us

    Hi!

We’re Myra & Laurier – the couple behind Travel Cape Breton!

Man and woman on road with water and green hills down below.

If you already know about Cape Breton Island, you probably also know it’s one of the most beautiful, friendly, incredibly special places in the world.

If Cape Breton is new to you, welcome!  We hope you’ll find lots of photos, stories, reviews and experiences here to inspire you to visit Cape Breton (even just as an armchair traveller!).

Before we get started touring this amazing island, here’s a bit about us.  In Cape Breton, people are never strangers for long, so this way you’ll feel like you know your tour guides 🙂.

    Who Are We?

Man, woman and three children sitting on rocks in front of a waterfall.

Both of us were lucky enough to grow up in Cape Breton, calling it home until we graduated from high school and went off to university.

We grew up on a small, gorgeous island in the south coast of Cape Breton, made up of tiny villages and fishing hamlets.

After university, we each lived away for a few years, working and sometimes travelling the world (especially Myra, who lived and worked on a cruise ship for two years).

Finally, when the right time rolled around, we made our way back to this beautiful place, to settle down, get married, and start a family.

We’ve been back more than 10 years, and truly hope to spend 100 more here 🙂.

With our backgrounds in writing, photography, travel and day to day living and exploring in Cape Breton, Travel Cape Breton is a logical extension of our lives here.

We plan to grow it into an amazing resource to help you travel Cape Breton (hopefully in-person, but if not, online!).

We also hope it will be a heartwarming place for displaced Cape Bretoners, still dreaming of home, and a way for all Cape Bretoners to share their pride in this very special place we call home.

We aren’t new to the world of online publishing – Myra had a travel blog back in 2005-2008, before blogging was really even a thing.

We also own and operate Delicious on a Dime, a food blog that shares budget-friendly tips and recipes, which has been featured on CBC Radio, BuzzFeed, Parade, Pure Wow, SaltWire, the Chronicle Herald, Food Bloggers of Canada and many more places.

We hope you’ll join us as we pour our hearts into this new venture.

A bit about Cape Breton Island

Rolling green hills meet wavy blue ocean.

Maybe this is the first time you've encountered this gorgeous little island on the east coast of Canada.

Maybe, like us, you're from Cape Breton Island, and living here now!

Maybe you have friends or family from Cape Breton, who tell you stories about the amazing seafood, the magical sunsets, the vibrant cultures or the kindness of strangers here.

Cape Breton Island has been on the receiving end of a lot of media attention in the past few years!

For five straight years, it's been called the best island in Canada by Travel + Leisure Magazine! It's also been listed as number 10 on Travel + Leisure's list of the Best Islands in the World!

In 2022, CNN Travel named Cape Breton Island #3 on their list of Where to Travel in 2022.

All these accolades really just reinforce what residents and visitors of Cape Breton have known for years:
